Kim Oswick’s Story
On October 3, 2000 when Kim was only 8 years old, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. We were told there was an 85% cure rate and Kim was put on a 130 week protocol. After only 7 months off treatment, we were devastated to learn Kim had relapsed. Because the leukemia was aggressive, the chemotherapy would not work so we headed to The Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto for a bone marrow transplant. We nearly lost our Kimmy through the transplant but she is quite the fighter and managed to pull through.
Unfortunately, Kim’s battle was not over. Eighteen months after her transplant, Kim relapsed again. This time the leukemia was even more aggressive as it was not only in her bone marrow but had also invaded her central nervous system. The doctors told us Kim had a couple of months at best but being the fighter she was, Kim survived 11 months. We lost our beautiful daughter on November 29, 2006 at 14 years old.
Kim’s strength and courage will always be remembered as we hold her in our hearts forever.
